CARD NETWORK
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover are the major player in routing transaction data between acquirers and issuing banks (card holders banks). They establish and enforce security standards, manage authorizations, and facilitate the global infrastructure for secure and reliable payments. THEY SET INTERCHANGE FEES.
CARD ISSUER
The financial institution which issued the card to the cardholder. When a transaction for authorization is routed it verifies creditable, checks for sufficient funds or credit, and approves or declines the transaction.
